NaNoWriMo 2016: Day 8 – Still Rebelling

nanowrimo_2016_webbadge_participant-180And the rebellion continues…

My word count is increasing at a mostly steady pace as you can see below (today’s count is not yet final so not included), though there were some hiccups along the way. I’m currently running almost one day ahead, which is good, because I’m nearing the end of my rebellion, or rather of Isabella, the sweet Regency romance I had not yet finished. Whatever padding I manage to accrue will serve me well as I transition to Traps and Treachery, especially if I’m not ready to jump into writing the second novel when Isabella reaches the end (possibly as early as tonight though more likely tomorrow morning).

As to Traps and Treachery, I’m still in the process of re-reading Steam and Shadows, though my Kindle informs me I’m at 85% so not that much farther to go. It would be lovely to discover a built-out initial synopsis for Traps and Treachery tucked into the last scene for reference, but I am in no way counting on this. What will follow the read is a brainstorming session to suss out the shape of the next book and start an outline of sorts. I already recognize the outline will be sparer than I prefer, but I’m hoping it will all come together as I begin writing, buoyed on by the energy of NaNo. It does, however, look less and less likely I’ll be able to segregate my Isabella words from the final count, but you never know what will happen until November 30th rolls around.

Because of the last, I’ve added the NaNo Rebel badge to my NaNo profile along with a few others that are appropriate for this year’s endeavors. Usually I would state I’m a planner, or rather an organized organic, but because of my complete failure to prepare, this year I’m a plantser…a crossover type from pantsing to planning. It seems just the kind of hybrid this rebel deserves.

How is NaNo treating you? Are you all charged up with creativity until it’s leaking from your ears, or do you need a nudge to keep the momentum going?

If you’re support rather than participant, a suggestion to do your NaNoite a good turn: Encourage them to talk about both their frustrations and the story, but record the conversation (with permission of course). You can give it to them when they’re struggling to remind them of the obstacles overcome and the passion they felt about the project before becoming mired. If nothing else, they could transcribe the discussion as a boost to the word count, and maybe that would be enough to get them started again.
Cumulative Progress:
Day 1-1692
Day 2-3172
Day 3-3997
Day 4-6242
Day 5-8102
Day 6-10929
Day 7-13158

Clarification: The counts above are cumulative not daily. To show the progression of my NaNo. My daily counts have been all over the place and look more like this:
Daily Progress
Day 1-1692
Day 2-1480
Day 3-825
Day 4-2245
Day 5-1860
Day 6-2827
Day 7-2229

Those are some inspiring word counts. O_O I had never heard of the term NaNo Rebel until this post. I’ll have to share it with my husband. He’s the participant this year.

On that note, thank you for the suggestion. My husband never complains about not hitting a goal, but I’m sure I could get him to talk. 🙂

Yr welcome. I hope it helps, and even if it doesn’t help the word count, it’ll keep you involved.

Oh, clarification. Those are CUMULATIVE, not daily counts. I wish they were daily…well, actually I don’t because then Isabella would be much too long. She’s already headed past 85k, though I might have some things I can cull in the edits.
