A Writing Update and Beat Poetry That Makes You Think

Beneath the Mask by Margaret McGaffey Fisk

I wanted to give you all a quick update on several projects that might be of interest. I’ve also included a thought-provoking YouTube video of beat poetry that my son pointed out to me at the bottom as a reward for reading through.

The Writing Updates

One

I have re-released Beneath the Mask in all formats for a few reasons. First of all, Dawn Hyde, my wonderful narrator for the audio version, clued me in on a few places where American traditions had slipped into my Regency novel set in London so I did a few fixes there.

The second reason is because I have added the first chapter of A Country Masquerade, Aubrey’s tale of romantic tangles, to the back.

You might have noticed from the attached cover image, but the final reason was to update the cover with the series title: Uncommon Lords and Ladies. They might not all be titled as the series develops, but neither will they be as tied to the rules of their birth and station as perhaps they should have been.

If you purchased the electronic version, you should be able to request an updated file. If you purchased paper and would like to see the first chapter of A Country Masquerade, just drop me a note using the contact form and I can send you the excerpt by email. Alternately, you can wait for the release when I’ll put up a book page for it.

Two

From the above, it should come as no surprise that A Country Masquerade is in its final edit stages and I’m working with a cover designer to make this one shine.

Three

I have also begun edits on Threats (Book Two of The Steamship Chronicles) to prepare it for its December release. This one has some surprises in store, and some tense moments. I look forward to seeing what you all think of it.

Four

I am narrowing in on the final scenes of Trainee‘s first draft. This is the continuation of Trina’s story after Shafter as she studies to become a spacer and finds the experience both uncomfortably familiar and quite new. The series is titled Seeds Among the Stars and will be split into two subcategories: Spacers and Colonists.

Five

I’d hoped to announce the completion of this one, but I am still in the process of creating and testing the files for Secrets (Book One of The Steamship Chronicles) to appear on various other platforms. It’s important to me to give you the cleanest books I can, and changing platforms means coding differences that can cause problems on the various readers. However, I expect to have the wider distribution completed by the end of the week if you were waiting for an ePub, PDF, or just non-Amazon version.

And now on to the video:

The video is all about taking a break from electronic communication and meeting a friend over coffee to talk about a book you just read perhaps. Check it out and just maybe take some time from your busy schedule to engage on a personal level. If you’re already doing that, great. Keep it up. But for those of us who end up in a largely electronic world, it’s a good reminder.
